April Ross
April Ross is only one of the few beach volleyball athletes to win medals more than once at an Olympics. Alix Klineman is the newest Olympian and is set to join her at Tokyo. Ross is determined to earn more than her initial Olympic medal. It could be the last time she has the chance as she is 39 years old. She is still confident, however. Ross was quoted on NBC Boston as saying that if you play your highest, and even play well we will get the gold. Also, it's a matter of chance. Ross was born the 22, 1982, in Costa Mesa California. She resided there along with her entire family. Ross went on to play in numerous sports in Newport Harbor High School. Her pre-athletic career comprised indoor volleyball as well as basketball as well as running and track. In her final game she stood out. In her high school volleyball career in her university biography she played as an outside-hitter, middle-blocker and setter. The results of her efforts were acknowledged when she was named 1999 Gatorade's National Circle of Champions Players of the Year. The 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Month was also received by her for volleyball. While Ross Klineman and Ross are in the spotlight since the year 2017, Klineman was already an established participant on the beaches long before their pairing. She actually won multiple major tournaments in the past with two different partners. one of which is the volleyball legend. From 2007 until 2013, she was a team alongside Jennifer Kessy who more recently served as her and Klineman's coach. Ross, the teammate of Kessy's, who won the world title together with Kessy in 2009 was also an important player on the international stage. The duo would go into winning a silver in the 2012 Olympic Games at London. The Misty Maytreanor legendary team and Kerri Jennings took home the gold. Ross Jennings was the replacement for May-Treanor as she announced her retirement. They went on to compete for the bronze beach volleyball medal at the Rio Olympics 2016. They were joined by Walsh Jennings. Ross competed for USC Trojans throughout her college the years prior to her professional career. Ross had an impressive run in the college. In 2000 she was named Pac-10 Freshman and NCAA Freshman of the Year. She was also named an All-American. She also helped her Trojans to reach the Final Four. She was devastated by a personal tragedy during her sophomore years, yet she was able to make it an All-American once more. The two years following her she led the Trojans to the top of the mountain and took home consecutive national championships. Her individual achievements have cemented her status as a legend in volleyball. She was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the best female college player. Ross played international relations as a student at USC. Margie Ross didn't get to witness Ross reach beach volleyball's highest stage. Ross's mom Margie passed away in 2001. Ross was still an USC sophomore. Her breast cancer had been diagnosed. She continues to cherish her parents who passed away. Margie is a constant source of inspiration to her, both in and out of the water.
